Resolving Conflict: Educating For Peace
Services Offered
Peace education is both education for peace and education about peace
The Project aims to develop an understanding of how conflict, if resolved creatively and without violence can be a positive force for change.
We believe that everyone is special and that no-one should accept that violence and injustice are inevitable.
The main focus of our work is professional training courses and teaching materials for creative conflict handling for schools and staff in other organisations involving young people. We also offer a wide range of specific courses for adults working with young people. These are designed for each individual circumstance.
The work is undertaken by a team of education workers with a wide variety of professional skills. The current team includes teachers, former headteachers, counsellors, psychotherapists, further education lecturers and people experienced in international conflict resolution work as well as those trained in mediation skills. All have been vetted in accordance with our child protection policy.
The Project has a peace education library at the office in Dudley. It is open at the same times as the office but can be available at other times by telephone appointment. Books and other resources such as puppets, koosh balls, a parchute, videos and song CDs may be borrowed by individuals, schools and other organisations. Book boxes can be provided on request.

How we can help
Conflict is part of everyday life, so it is vitally important that children should understand its causes, both in social conditions and in personal relationships. We all need to learn ways of creatively resolving conflict without resorting to aggression.
Latest News
It has been decided to cancel the 2008 Network and Training Day on November 11th.
This is because there were not enough delegates booked by the cut off date. The Peer Mediation Network will be organising another event in 2009.
